Chef Maggie

My happy moment came today when my supervisor at Common Threads told me how thrilled she was to have me there this summer. She’s been incredibly encouraging and supportive of me and she told me to tell people I’m a chef at Common Threads if they want to know where I work as a chef. [...]

Los Choristes

I watched a wonderful French movie last night titled Los Choristes. It was about a man who goes to teach at a severely run boarding school for orphans and challenging children and gives them hope through singing. Highly recommended.

So many things to be happy about!
1. I got to go out on a wonderful date with David last night to begin the birthday celebration. We went to see Exit Through the Gift Shop and then went out for pulled pork nachos at one of David’s favorite pubs, Small Bar. Thanks for babysitting Kevin and [...]

Summertime…

For today, a short list of things that made me happy today…

The fireflies are out!
The heat! Today reached about 90 and I sweat most of the day, and I love it! People think I’m crazy, but when you’re cold the majority of the year, it’s wonderful to be really HOT.

Picnics and Parents

Oh no! It’s only been 4 days and I’ve already missed a post! That’s ok, right? This is a super quick one because David’s parents just arrived and we’re about to eat (some more) strawberry rhubarb crisp made by my Chef Husband. All of the things in the previous sentence make me very happy. David, [...]

Today we spent a delightfully relaxing afternoon with our good friends the Davidsons at their house in Wheaton. Our afternoon made me very happy. Anna and Bob are incredibly good hosts and make us feel completely at home at their house and in their family. Anna made a delicious salad of greens and roasted vegetables [...]

Maggie Happy is back

As I was rollerblading along the lake this morning, I decided that I wanted to bring back the Maggie Happy posts. As someone who is prone to pessimism and anxiety, it’s not always easy for me to focus on what’s good and joyous in my life. But there are so many things, so for the [...]

a gluten-free birthday

Our wonderful friends Dawn and Michael gave me a fun birthday surprise last weekend. They came over to eat David’s Famous Grilled Veggie Pasta with us on Fri night, and they brought me this beautiful gluten-free carrot cake from Bulldog Bakery. It was my first gluten-free birthday cake, and it was delicious! What good friends:)

The morning after our return from DC I took Maggie to the airport for her trip to Calgary for Megs’ wedding.  She had quite a long layover in Seattle, so she took the bus from the airport to Pike Place Market where she took these photos with her phone.
She arrived safely last night and is [...]

It’s Maggie here, making a guest appearance to tell you all about my wonderful birthday last weekend. On Saturday we spent the morning and early afternoon at Growing Home Farm in Marseilles, IL, about an hour and half from us. We went there to get a tour of the farm and to learn more about [...]
