On our afternoon walk today Eliot and I met a woman who pointed out a beautiful red cardinal and his more subdued mate in a tree just above our heads.  I know it may not look like it in this photo, but surely spring is coming.

You can see a few more photos of Eliot’s first [...]

Maggie’s play

Last night Maggie’s play with the Hyde Park Community Players opened.  She did great!  A couple of days ago our neighborhood newspaper had an article about the play and it included a photo of Maggie (“the fool”) and another actor (“the blind man”) at one of their rehearsals.  Click on the photos for the full [...]

Living in Chicago allows us to do much of our grocery shopping at the farmers market.  Despite the cold, the Green City Market was really hopping yesterday.  People were probably picking up food for their Thanksgiving feast this Friday.

In addition to the turkey we had reserved a couple of months ago, we also picked up [...]

Two weekends ago we spent a few hours at the Botanic Gardens when the fall colors were at their peak.  We’ll probably visit the gardens a few times over the winter, but it was nice to see the leaves one last time before the spring.

My little sis Mary and her “special friend” John came to visit this weekend:) David and I had a really fun time hanging out with them, getting to know John, and showing them around our lovely city. We had a very full yet relaxing time (except for the evening we walked a total of about [...]

We had a really fun time with our friends, met some great folks, learned about some fascinating communities around the country, and enjoyed our weekend camping. I’ll post more later- either here or over at Signs of Life- but for now, here’s [...]

We’ve decided our new kitten’s name is Gabriella. Or maybe, Gabriela. One “l” would be Spanish while two is Italian. How do we know?
Last night Maggie’s friend Rachel came over and they came close to finishing up their mosaic picture frames they’ve been working on for a while. They’ve done a [...]

A month or so ago, realizing that there were very few free weekends before the New Year, we decided to take a weekend off. And then, the Thursday before our off weekend, we got a call from our friend Anna asking if we wanted two nights at the Chicago Hyatt. A friend’s non-refundable [...]

Were am I?

I reflected on a couple of recent experiences over at rednoW…
Last weekend a couple of friends and I met up with an acquaintance from the west coast. The coffee shop where we met is one of many stores making up one of the ever-present strip malls in our town. I wasn’t thinking about this landscape [...]
