it’s good to be home…

…though we ended up having a great weekend. Here are a few photos of our house and the neighbor’s house just an hour or so after the storm on Thursday afternoon. Yesterday afternoon we finally got our power (and water) back. Currently the only real sign of the craziness are the huge piles of limbs that everyone has stacked by the side of the street. There are still some folks without power. A guy from church came into our staff meeting today and shared his discouragement as his power and water remain off. It’s particularly tough for him as his business is run from his home. Surely there are others in equally tough positions.
Relatively speaking we weathered this whole thing quite well. A big part of that is due to the hospitality of our friends Anna and Bob who not only put us up in their guest room, but made us feel a part of their family while we were there. We ate great, had good conversations, even tagged along to the zoo on Sunday afternoon.
Tonight Maggie went shopping to restock our fridge and I mowed our way-too-long yard. Now we’re going for a walk around the lake.
For more on this weekend you can read Anna’s story here and see some photos of our outdoor church service here.
Once or twice a week we post photos, videos, or updates for our friends and family who are scattered all over the place.
Wow! That must have been scary. Where were you two? At work? I read Anna’s account…right when school let out, not a great time. But thankfully no one was hurt. I know those children won’t forget that for awhile, but I pray they won’t let it scare them forever. I’m glad your house was spared. Thanks for the photos. jane
Wow! We had a similar experience a few years ago when 3 hurricanes came through our area within 3months. Each time we lost power and trees came down everywhere. The last hurricane put us without power for 8 days!! Good times. Makes you grateful for things like electricity and air conditioning!
Hey Jane- we were both coming home from work as the storm subsided. Glad that we weren’t here actually.
Shayla- I’m sure this was NOTHING compared with the hurricanes you guys have been through. Though it did give us a little taste of life on the coast!
